Course overview

The Master of Human Resource Management prepares graduates to address contemporary people and employment challenges within complex organisations. You will examine how human resource practices can support organisational capability, workforce outcomes and the interests of employees and other stakeholders.

The fixed eight-subject structure covers workforce planning and labour markets, human capital and organisational capability, industrial relations, strategic employment relations, professional practice, reward management, information for decision-making and an applied human resources and management project.

The course is accredited by the Australian HR Institute, with learning informed by professional HR capabilities. The Western Sydney University School of Business is also AACSB-accredited.

Completed over one year full-time or two years part-time at Parramatta City, the course may support careers in human resource management, HR administration and advisory work, workforce planning, organisational development and industrial relations.

Entry requirements

Academic requirements

Applicants must have one of the following:

  • Successfully completed a graduate certificate, or higher, in a business discipline.
  • Successfully completed an undergraduate degree in a business discipline (specifically human resource management, human resource development, industrial relations, employment relations, organisational development or related discipline) with a GPA of 5.0 or WAM (Weighted Average Mark) of 65+ (if provided on the academic record).
  • Successfully completed an undergraduate degree or higher, in any discipline and a minimum of two years of full-time equivalent managerial/professional work experience in roles facilitating human resource management, organisational development and training and employment relations or in related roles.
  • Successfully completed an undergraduate degree, or higher, in any discipline and a minimum of five years of general work experience in human resource management, organisational development, training and employment relations, or in related roles.

Work experience

Applicants seeking admission on the basis of work experience must support their application with a Statement of Service for all work experience listed on the application.
