Course overview
The Master of Professional Accounting provides training in the technical aspects of the preparation of accounting data, develops your skills in the application of accounting information to solve problems and make decisions, and develops important professional skills such as communication and critical thinking.
This course provides an opportunity for graduates to obtain a qualification that is recognised by professional accounting bodies and the wider business community.

What you will study
Students who have not completed the Bachelor of Commerce, or equivalent as recognised by the Faculty, must complete relevant conversion units up to the value of 24 points from this group, as advised by the Faculty:
- Introductory Financial Accounting
- Applied Professional Business Communications
- Economics for Business: Applications and Policy
- Data Analysis and Decision Making
All units have a value of six points unless otherwise stated.

- Contemporary Issues in Accounting
- Intermediate Corporate Financial Accounting
- Principles of Auditing
- Financial Accounting: Theory and Practice
- Accounting Information Systems
- Accounting for Planning and Control
- Principles of Taxation
- Finance Essentials
- Commercial and Company Law
- Ethics and Sustainability Management
Option units (12 points)
Choose two from the following:
- Management Accounting: Issues and Perspectives
- Advanced Corporate Financial Accounting
- Financial Statement Analysis and Business Valuation
- Work Integrated Learning Internship Program
Entry requirements
Academic requirements
To be considered for admission to this course, an applicant must have one of the following:
- A bachelor's degree, or an equivalent qualification*, as recognised by UWA, and either:
- The equivalent of a UWA weighted average mark of at least 50 per cent.
- At least two years of professional experience in a relevant occupation.
- Completed a Graduate Certificate in Commerce at UWA.
*Applicants who have a bachelor's degree with a major in accounting, or an equivalent qualification, are not eligible for admission.
English language requirements
English is the language of instruction and assessment at UWA and you will need to meet the English language requirements of the university to be eligible for a place.
- Minimum overall IELTS score of 6.5, with no band less than 6.0.

This degree offers a variety of career paths in the private and public sectors, public accounting firms, small business and self-employment. Professional accountants are employed as company directors, board members, chief executive officers and partners in business.
