Course overview

The Master of Commerce is ideal for recent graduates seeking to develop further expertise to pursue careers in business.

It is suited both to graduates with a non-business degree seeking a postgraduate qualification in business and to business graduates wanting to add new areas of specialisation to their skill set. You’ll complete core units in ethics, economics, financial accounting, global business, management, and marketing.

The flexible course structure gives you the choice of combining two specialisations, completing more extensive study in one specialisation, or combining one specialisation with an array of electives from across the other specialisations. Career opportunities are vast and depend on your choice of specialisation. The flexible structure enables you to design the course to suit your career interests.

What you will study

Students must complete 96 points comprising:

  • 12 points of core units.
  • 24 points of option units.
  • 48 points of units required by the specialisation.

All units have a value of six points unless otherwise stated.

Students who have not completed the Bachelor of Commerce, or equivalent as recognised by the Faculty, may be required to complete relevant conversion units up to the value of 24 points, as advised by the Faculty.

Entry requirements

Academic requirements

To be considered for admission to this course, an applicant must have one of the following:

  • A Bachelor's degree, or an equivalent qualification, as recognised by UWA; and either:
    • The equivalent of a UWA weighted average mark of at least 50 per cent.
    • At least two years of professional experience in a relevant occupation.
  • Completed a Graduate Certificate in Finance, or Graduate Certificate in Human Resources and Employment Relations, or Graduate Certificate in Business Information and Logistics Management, or Graduate Certificate in Commerce, or Graduate Certificate in Marketing, or Graduate Certificate in Economics at UWA.

English language requirements

English is the language of instruction and assessment at UWA and you will need to meet the English language requirements of the university to be eligible for a place.

  • Minimum overall IELTS score of 6.5, with no band less than 6.0.
