Designed to give graduate students an understanding of the role of the government in economic activity, public policy and legal decision-making.

Course overview
The Graduate Certificate in Public Policy focuses on how the government interacts with the economy and the law and examines, for example, economic growth, stability, taxation, criminal justice, infrastructure provision, regulation, health, defence, education and social security.
Students who study public policy will work at all levels of government, in the not-for-profit sector, in consulting firms and in international organisations. They can be social entrepreneurs, policy analysts, consultants to government, or hold public office. This course will give you the necessary multi-disciplinary understanding of these roles and help you to understand, design and evaluate economic and public policies.

Entry Requirements
To be considered for admission to this course, an applicant must have one of the following:
- A bachelor's degree or an equivalent qualification, as recognised by UWA and either the equivalent of a UWA weighted average mark of at least 50 per cent or at least two years of professional experience in a relevant occupation.
- Significant work experience, including at least five years of material responsibility.
English Language Requirements
English is the language of instruction and assessment at UWA. You will also need to meet the University's English language requirements to be eligible for a place.
Minimum overall IELTS score of 6.5, with no band less than 6.0.

The Graduate Certificate in Public Policy is designed to nurture future leaders of government, non-profit and private sector organisations that are aimed at pursuing the public interest.
Graduates may be employed as public policy analysts (either in economics or public administration and governance), as well as managers in public sector departments and agencies.
Fees and FEE-HELP
Annual course fee in 2025: $13,000 (domestic full-fee paying place)
The annual course fee is calculated based on a study load of 24 credit points (0.5 EFTSL).
A student’s annual fee may vary in accordance with:
- The number of units studied.
- Choice of courses.
- Credit from previous study or work experience.
- Eligibility for government-funded loans.
