What you will study

To complete this degree, students must complete eight units. Each course is valued at one unit unless otherwise indicated.

Entry Requirements

• Completion of a Bachelor of Laws (Honours), a Juris Doctor, a Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice or an international equivalent.
• Applicants who do not hold a law degree but have an equivalent qualification approved by a legal profession admissions board are also eligible to apply for entry.
• If you have completed the UniSQ Juris Doctor, you will receive 50% specific credit for particular components of the Master of Laws. If you have completed a Juris Doctor degree from another institute, you can apply for credit as per the Credit and Exemption policy.

English Language Requirements

You are required to meet the applicable English language requirements and this degree requires a minimum of IELTS 6.5 with a minimum of 6.0 in each subscore. UniSQ also accepts other English language proficiency tests.

Recognition of Prior Learning

You may be eligible for recognition of prior learning if you have previously studied or have relevant work experience. This will help to reduce the number of courses that you need to study to finish your program. Contact the university for more information.

Upon completion of this program, graduates will be able to:

• Apply advanced research skills to interpret and critique legal research in specialised areas of law using advanced legal research methodologies and techniques.
• Evaluate developments in chosen areas of private, commercial, international, or public law leading to specialisation and critically examine the relationship between those developments and contemporary theory or practice in Australia or internationally.
• Articulate in writing or orally, complex ideas and knowledge in specialised areas of law evidencing an appreciation for the ethical practice of law, engagement with global concerns, human rights, environmental and societal challenges, including the ability to formulate contextual solutions to legal problems.
• Achieve high-level legal problem-solving expertise through traditional and alternative dispute resolution mechanisms, upholding professional standards and displaying exceptional insight.
• Design, conduct independent research, and write a substantial legal research project on a chosen area of law.
• Enhance self-confidence, resilience, and employability through the acquisition and application of specialist legal knowledge and research skills.

Indicative annual fee in 2025: $33,520 (domestic full-fee paying place)

Indicative annual fees are based on your first year of study or eight units.
