What you will study

Students must complete 16 units for all MFinInvMgt Core Courses. Each course is valued at two units.

Entry requirements

Academic requirements

To be eligible for entry, you'll need one of the following:

  • A bachelor honours degree (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline.
  • A bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline, plus two years of full-time equivalent relevant work experience.
  • The Graduate Certificate in Finance and Investment Management from UQ (or equivalent).
  • The Graduate Certificate in Commerce from UQ (or equivalent).

You must have a grade point average (GPA) of 4.5 on a seven-point scale in your previous qualification. International applicants must have completed the Graduate Management Admissions Test (GMAT) with a minimum score of 550.

Relevant disciplines for previous qualifications

Relevant disciplines include:

  • A bachelor's or bachelor honours degree in accounting, commerce, economics, finance, mathematics or quantitative methods.
  • A bachelor's or bachelor honours degree containing at least five courses in the following areas: calculus or advanced mathematics or high mathematics or mathematical analysis, finance or financial management, accounting or accounting management, business analytics or business information systems, algebra, probability or statistics, statics and ordinary differential equation or numerical analysis or differential equations or multivariate analysis.

Relevant work experience

Relevant work experience should typically be post-graduation and includes work in finance, funds management, debt/liquidity management, broking, bank/corporate treasury, trading, business partner (accounting, economics or finance), origination and investment banking in various types of roles (front office, middle office and relevant support functions e.g. legal), or project management roles (with financial, venture capital or quantitative responsibilities).

English language requirements

For international students, you must demonstrate that you meet one of the following English proficiency requirements:

  • IELTS overall 7; reading 6; writing 6; speaking 6; listening 6. For other English Language Proficiency Tests and Scores approved for UQ.
  • TOEFL iBT (including Paper Edition) - Overall 100, listening 19, reading 19, writing 21, speaking 19.
  • PTE Academic - Overall 72, all sub bands minimum 60.
  • BE - A minimum overall grade of 5 plus a minimum grade of C in all macro skills.
  • CES - Overall 185, all sub bands minimum 169.

OET is not accepted.
