Course overview
The Graduate Certificate in Governance and Public Policy aims to take your student experience to a new level and boost your quality and employability as a future leader. As a student, you'll undertake high-level coursework to gain practical knowledge and research skills, as well as a critical, inquiring approach to questions of governance and policy development in the modern world.
You'll gain a deeper understanding of how governments operate and the major public issues confronting our society across areas such as community and international policy, governance and development, and resource management.
As a graduate, you'll be equipped with a transferable skill-set allowing you to meaningfully address key policy issues and improve policy outcomes in both the public and private sectors.

What you will study
Students must complete eight units for one of the following:
- Eight units for all GCGPP Foundational Courses.
- Eight units from GCGPP Flexible Core Courses.
- Eight units for GCGPP Flexible Core Courses and Program Elective Courses.
Unless otherwise stated, each course is valued at two units.
Complete eight units for all of the following:
- Writing Politics (four units)
- Foundations in Politics, Policy and International Relations (four units)
Entry Requirements
To be eligible for entry, you'll need one of the following:
- A bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in any discipline.
- To have completed post-secondary studies and have two years of full-time equivalent relevant work experience in a public policy organisation (see below). Applications based on post-secondary study and/or work experience will be individually assessed.
You must have a grade point average (GPA) of at least 4.5 on a 7-point scale in your previous qualification.
Relevant Work Experience
Relevant work experience includes work in:
- The planning, management and implementation of policies or programs at any level of governmental agencies - local, state, national or international.
- Program delivery or project management in non-government and community organisations.
- Research, evaluation, building organisational capabilities and service delivery.
This work experience should demonstrate analytical and writing skills.
