What you will study

Students must complete eight units (four courses) comprising:

  • Six units for all GCEcon Core Courses
  • Two units from GCEcon Program Elective Courses
GCEcon Core Courses

Complete six units for all of the following:

  • The Macroeconomy
  • Consumer and Firm Behaviour
  • Elements of Econometrics
GCEcon Program Elective Courses

Entry requirements

Academic requirements

To be eligible for entry, you'll need a bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline.

You must have a grade point average (GPA) of 4.0 on a 7-point scale in your previous qualification.

Relevant disciplines for previous qualifications

Relevant disciplines include economics, business, or commerce; or a bachelor's degree containing at least four courses in any three of the following areas:

  • Microeconomics
  • Macroeconomics
  • Statistics
  • Mathematics

English language requirements

For international students, you must demonstrate that you meet one of the following English proficiency requirements:

  • IELTS overall 6.5; reading 6; writing 6; speaking 6; listening 6. For other English Language Proficiency Tests and Scores approved for UQ.
  • TOEFL iBT (including Paper Edition) - Overall 87, listening 19, reading 19, writing 21 and speaking 19.
  • PTE Academic - Overall Score of 64 and 60 in all sub bands.
  • BE - A minimum overall grade of 4 plus a minimum grade of C in all macro skills.
  • CES - Overall 176 and 169 in all sub bands.

OET is not accepted.

Fees and FEE-HELP

Indicative annual fee in 2025: $20,920 (domestic full-fee paying place)

The indicative annual fee is based on your approximate yearly cost of tuition (eight units).

A student’s fee may vary depending on:

  • The number of courses studied.
  • Choice of courses.
  • Credit from previous study or work experience.
  • Eligibility for government-funded loans.

You may also need to pay the student services and amenities fee.
