What you will learn

After attending the course and completing the action learning, this course will enable you to set your project teams up for success.

In this course, you will:

  • Evaluate appropriate approaches, methods and tools for different types of projects based on the project’s level of uncertainty, risk and complexity.
  • Assess 12 critical success factors when initiating and setting up projects. 
  • Define the role of project governance and sponsorship in engaging and aligning project stakeholders to the project objectives.
  • Explore the trade-off between time, cost and scope in a project simulation to optimise performance and team productivity.
  • Diagnose an in-flight project to assess its health and apply learnings to improve its chances of success.

How will you learn

This course takes place over two engaging days of in-person sessions. To help you prepare and get the most out of the experience, you’ll have access to resources and preparation activities in advance. These materials are designed to familiarise you with key concepts and set the foundation for active participation during the sessions.

This course is delivered across two full days.

Day 1

  • Project definition and approaches.
  • Vasa case study - Explore the Vasa project to understand design, approach, stakeholder involvement and risk management.
  • Challenges for project management, Obeng model, uncertainty and risk in projects and agile vs. predictive approaches to uncertainty.
  • Project objectives, project charter and project planning process.
  • Project stakeholders, governance and success.

Day 2

  • Develop a LEGO project plan.
  • Build session (30-minute intervals for PSR).
  • Continue building and reviewing.
  • Debrief. Lessons, insights and application.

Who You Will Learn From

Jürgen Oschadleus

Jürgen Oschadleus

Adjunct Faculty

Jürgen Oschadleus is an international speaker, educator, consultant and coach on project leadership, influence and effective communication. He combines his background in history, education and technology projects with a fascination for sport and psychology, and uses this to challenge people’s thinking and help them create new mental connections, apply knowledge and achieve the outcomes they seek.

With over 25 years of education, strategic consulting, systems deployment and leadership development projects in Africa, Europe, the USA and the Asia Pacific region, Jürgen has been exposed to a broad range of industries in both the commercial and public sector.

Jürgen is the founder and director of Act Knowledge, the Asia/Pacific partner of the Valense network of organisational consultants, and he is an independent Certified Coach, Teacher and Speaker with The John Maxwell Team. He consults to various corporates, and facilitates post-graduate project management and leadership classes in the MBAx program within AGSM @ UNSW Business School, and in the School of Project Management in the Faculty of Engineering & IT at the University of Sydney. He writes for various international publications, and published Heart of Influence in 2004.

Jürgen holds a Master’s degree in History, an MBA in International Project Management and Organisational Development, a Higher Education Diploma and Certificate IV in Workplace Training & Assessment, and PMI’s Project Management Professional (PMP®) and Disciplined Agile Senior Scrum Master (DASSM) credentials. He is also DiSC and SDI-accredited, a Distinguished Toastmaster (DTM), and a certified goalkeeping and football youth coach. He belongs to a range of industry and professional bodies, including the Project Management Institute, the Australian Institute of Project Management (AIPM), and the International Centre of Complex Project Management (ICPPM), and is a Fellow in the Asia Pacific Institute of Learning & Performance (ILP).

Jürgen lives in Sydney (Australia), where he is a goalkeeper in his local football (soccer) league.
