Course overview

UNSW Canberra’s Master of Project Management supports professionals seeking to extend their understanding of project management and develop the capabilities required to coordinate complex projects. The course considers how projects can be aligned with organisational objectives, budgets, timelines and stakeholder requirements.

Students strengthen their knowledge across project planning, administration, requirements, scheduling, budgeting and risk. The course also develops broader capabilities in decision-making, communication, leadership and the management of organisational resources, enabling students to approach project challenges from operational and strategic perspectives.

The degree combines four core courses with four prescribed electives. Elective study allows students to explore areas such as strategic management, procurement, logistics, asset management, systems engineering, analytics and technology. Eligible students who achieve the required academic results may apply to undertake a research project, subject to approval by the Program Authority.

Delivered fully online, the course can be completed in one year of full-time study or a part-time equivalent. Career directions may include project coordination and management, program and portfolio management, project planning, risk management and project-focused roles across government, Defence, construction, technology and other industries.

Entry requirements

Academic requirements

To gain entry into a Master of Project Management, an applicant must meet one of the following entry requirements:

  • Completion of a bachelor's degree with honours in the same or a related discipline* from a recognised institution.
  • Completion of a graduate diploma or graduate certificate in the same or a related discipline from a recognised institution.
  • Completion of a bachelor's degree in the same or a related discipline from a recognised institution; and completion of at least three years of relevant full-time professional experience.
  • Completion of a bachelor's degree in a non-related discipline; and completion of at least four years of relevant full-time professional experience.
  • Evidence of other qualifications and professional experience to be assessed as acceptable grounds for admission into the program by the relevant Program Authority. In certain circumstances, students may be required to undertake and successfully complete a relevant non-award course as a condition for admission into the program. This non-award course may also be credited towards the program upon admission.

English language requirements
