Master of Applied Economics

  • Delivery: Face to Face
  • Study Level: Postgraduate
  • Duration: 12 months
  • Course Type: Master's

Develop the analytical and quantitative capabilities of a professional economist, learning to interpret data, evaluate evidence and apply economic thinking to complex challenges across business, government and policy.

Course overview

Designed for graduates and professionals seeking to build or broaden their expertise in economics, the Master of Applied Economics provides a practical pathway towards professional economist capability. The degree develops the analytical, quantitative and evidence-based skills needed to understand and respond to complex challenges across business, government and public policy.

As you progress through the program, you'll develop the ability to interpret economic data, evaluate evidence and analyse how markets, organisations and economies respond to changing conditions. You'll apply quantitative methods and economic modelling to real-world questions, strengthening your ability to turn complex analysis into practical insights and informed recommendations.

Delivered through face-to-face and blended study at UNSW's Kensington campus, the program combines applied economics with a two-part Economics Practicum focused on real-world challenges. This practical component provides an opportunity to apply economic frameworks and data analysis to professional contexts and develop evidence-based recommendations.

"Nothing beats stepping out of the day-to-day to see the bigger picture and develop new skills. The UNSW Business School was a great place to do just that. I would recommend it to anyone considering a similar investment."

Alice O'Hara | Former CEO of Bannisters Hotels | MAppEc (2025)
