You will learn to develop and justify a business case and commercial model, produce and present data visualisations to show key insights and explain your strategic decisions, coordinate a process to generate ideas, gather feedback and ideate product solutions and develop a strategy to support the product through its lifecycle.

What you will study

Module 1: Introduction to product lifecycle management

  • Examine a product vision and strategy and understand its importance.
  • Explore the five stages of product lifecycle management.
  • Identify product opportunities and their value.
  • Understand your target customers and market competitors.

Milestone: Define your product vision statement and identify opportunities.

Module 2: Setting the product direction

  • Analyse the required data and insights necessary to achieve a product vision.
  • Identify key metrics, signals, targets and trends to support your product recommendation.
  • Understand various data types, including market size, market pricing and cost models.

Module 3: Product ideation and priority

  • Brainstorm ideas for your product strategy.
  • Prioritise your ideas, conduct Kano analysis and competitor analysis.
  • Validate your ideas through user testing and frame a response to the feedback received.

Milestone: Brainstorm, prioritise and validate potential product features through usability testing to refine your feature set.

Module 4: Build the business case

  • Create a risk and impact assessment for your product.
  • Uncover how to structure an investment plan.
  • Identify a sales and distribution plan for your product.

Module 5: Product execution strategy

  • Execute your product strategy through a minimum viable product (MVP) and maximise customer value.
  • Review your product metrics and feedback and develop a roadmap to address areas of improvement.
  • Scale and expand your MVP and build a high-performing team.

Milestone: Define your delivery plan and product roadmap.

Module 6: Pitch for capital and investment

  • Prepare for your pitch by understanding your audience, finalising content and practising your pitch.
  • Reflect on your product pitch and explore the future of product management.

Project: Pitch your final project for endorsement.

  • Investigate and suggest a process to generate ideas, gather feedback and ideate product solutions for stakeholders.

If you have less experience in or are seeking an in-depth end-to-end understanding of product management, RMIT recommends taking the Product Management Fundamentals course first.

This course can be taken as a standalone but has been designed to be taken as part of a two-course Product Management bundle (with a saving of 10% across both courses). For a more comprehensive understanding of Product Management, we recommend that you also complete Product Management Fundamentals.
