What you will study
To earn the Master of Public Policy, students must complete 192 credit points. Unless otherwise indicated, each course is worth 12 credit points.
Complete the following eight courses for 96 credit points:

- Global Governance
- Social and Political Theory
- Policy Making
- Social Policy
- Research Strategies - Social Sciences
- Policy Design and Implementation
- Policy Making and Indigenous Peoples
Entry Requirements
Academic Requirements
You must have one of the following:
- Successfully completed an Australian bachelor's degree (or equivalent overseas qualification) with a minimum GPA of 2.5 (out of 4.0).
- Significant work experience or professional practice.
To have your professional experience considered, you must submit with your application a CV and a personal statement detailing your experience.
English Language Requirement
You must meet the University's minimum English language requirements to be eligible for a place in this program.
Recognition of Prior Learning
Applicants with a bachelor degree (honours), graduate certificate, graduate diploma or masters qualification majoring in a different discipline may also be eligible for credit transfer of up to 48 credit points (equivalent to one semester full time study).
Credit and exemptions will be assessed in a manner consistent with the principles of the RMIT Credit Policy.

Outcomes
As a graduate of this program, you will be able to:
- Critically analyse the social, political, ethical, institutional, economic and environmental factors that both enable and limit policy change.
- Make use of complex theories, diverse evidence and modes of reasoning, to extend and challenge knowledge and practice in policy and social innovation.
- Demonstrate research literacy in terms of recognising and accounting for the potential and limitations of research findings and their application to policy problems.
- Value ongoing professional development, diverse stakeholder engagement and collaborative relationships in the design and implementation of policy initiatives.
- Use problem-solving skills/methodologies to develop creative responses to contemporary social problems/policy issues.
- Demonstrate well-developed written and oral communication skills and confidently construct, debate and critique policy arguments.
- Independently develop and manage a professional project designed to contribute to policy change or social innovation.
Fees and FEE-HELP
Indicative annual fee in 2026: $29,760 (domestic full-fee paying place)
Additional expenses:
- Student services and amenities fee (SSAF): $365 maximum fee for 2026.
- Other items related to your program include field trips, textbooks and equipment.
The amounts quoted are indicative fees per annum and are based on a standard year of full-time study (96 credit points). A proportionate fee applies for more or less than the full-time study load. Fees are adjusted on an annual basis. These fees should only be used as a guide.
A student’s fee may vary depending on:

- Credit from previous study or work experience.
- Eligibility for government-funded loans.
FEE-HELP loans are available to assist eligible full-fee paying domestic students.
