In the Master of Occupational Health and Safety (OHS), you will explore the application of scientific principles to understand risks to the safety of people in workplaces and the actions required to control them.

Both community expectations and government legislation demand an increasingly higher level of protection for employees and the community from risks that threaten their safety and health. What you will study

To earn the Master of Occupational Health and Safety, students must complete 192 credit points. Unless otherwise indicated, each course is worth 12 credit points.

Academic requirements

Applicants must have one of the following:

  • Completed an Australian bachelor's degree (or equivalent overseas qualification).
  • A minimum of eight years of professional work experience in a related industry. Applicants with professional experience at a senior level of less than eight years may also be considered.

To have your professional experience considered, you must submit with your application a CV and a personal statement detailing your experience.

Learning outcomes

Upon successful completion of this program, graduates will have a specialised skill set and knowledge of complex occupational health and safety theory and practice, enabling them to not only analyse and address issues and developments within the discipline but also challenge and extend accepted knowledge. Graduates will be able to apply this knowledge to professional practice, designing creative and innovative decisions and solutions that meet client and organisational needs.

Graduates will also utilise specific research and technical skills to design OHS strategies and solutions that address key issues within this field, thereby enhancing deliverables and governance in creative, sustainable and effective ways. This will prepare graduates to provide strategic advice in professional practice.

Throughout the program, students will develop core skills in communication, decision-making and project management, enabling them to engage effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders and guide the implementation of tailored strategies and solutions across many contexts.
