What you will study

To complete the study of  International Relations (Double Masters with Shanghai Jiao Tong University), students must complete 96 units. The course is structured in two parts. Part A. Core master's study and Part B. Broadening expertise.

Part A. Core international relations studies

Principle study

You must complete 36 credit points from the following units

  • Foreign policy of emerging powers
  • Analysing global politics
  • Peacekeeping in the international system: Theory, policy and practice
  • International political economy
  • Contemporary security topics
  • Terrorism, counter-terrorism and technology
  • Foundations of international relations

Applied study

You must complete 12 credit points from the following capstone units

  • Professional internship
  • Australia and Asia in the Asian century: Politics, business, media
  • Global policy challenge
  • Political, social and economic change in contemporary India
  • Research project
  • Advanced simulation
Part B. Broadening expertise

Entry Requirements

Minimum Entry Requirements (Domestic students)

Qualifications

  • An Australian bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in a cognate* discipline with a minimum credit (60%) average.
  • An Australian bachelor's degree (or equivalent) and an Australian graduate certificate (or equivalent) in a cognate* discipline with a minimum pass (50%) average in both qualifications.

For Chinese Nationals:

Please note that Shanghai Jiao Tong University requires Chinese nationals to sit and pass the National Master Unified Entrance Examination for master students (written exam and an interview with Shanghai Jiao Tong University) before applying to Monash for admission to this course.
