Monash University is part of the CFA Institute University Affiliation Program and the Master of Advanced Finance is recognised by the CFA Institute, the global association for investment professionals that awards the Chartered Financial Analyst® (CFA) designation. This means the program covers a minimum of 70 per cent of all three topic levels of the CFA Program Candidate Body of Knowledge, thus assisting students in preparing for the CFA exams.
Additionally, this Master of Advanced Finance is an academic partner to the Global Association of Risk Professionals (GARP) which administers the prestigious Financial Risk Manager (FRM) certification.

What you will study
To complete the Master of Advanced Finance, you must complete 12 units (72 credit points). It consists of Part A. Mastery Knowledge 8 units (48 credit points) and Part B. Electives 4 units (24 credit points).

You must complete the Mergers and acquisitions (6 credit points) and two further units (12 credit points) from this specialist study.

Entry requirements
Entry level 1: 72 points to complete
Duration: 1.5 years full-time, three years part-time
- An Australian bachelor's degree (or equivalent) with a major or minor* in finance with at least a high credit (65%) average or equivalent Grade Point Average (GPA).
Entry level 2: 48 points to complete
Duration: One year full-time, two years part-time
- An Australian bachelor's degree (or equivalent) with a major in finance with at least a high credit (65%) average, or equivalent Grade Point Average (GPA), from a Certified Financial Analysts (CFA) Institute affiliated university.
- An Australian bachelor's degree (or equivalent) with a major in finance with at least a high credit (65%) average or equivalent Grade Point Average (GPA) and an Australian graduate certificate/honours degree (or equivalent).
- An Australian bachelor's degree (or equivalent) with a major in finance with at least a high credit (65%) average or equivalent Grade Point Average (GPA) and two years of relevant professional experience.**
- An Australian bachelor's degree (or equivalent) and having passed the level I CFA examination or equivalent membership of a recognised professional finance program.
*A minor is at least four units (equivalent to 24 Monash credit points).
** Applicants applying based on work experience are required to provide a detailed curriculum vitae outlining their employment history and professional experience.
English language requirements

Average 2025 first-year fee: $37,100 (domestic full-fee paying place)
All costs are calculated using current rates and are based on a study load of 24 credit points (normally four units) per semester or 48 credit points (normally eight units) per year.
