Course overview
Macquarie University’s Master of Banking and Finance and Master of Management brings together specialist financial knowledge and the ability to lead people, projects and organisational change. The double degree is suited to graduates seeking careers that require both financial expertise and a broader understanding of how organisations operate.
You will examine banking and financial intermediation, corporate finance, investments and current industry issues while developing capabilities in leadership, digital innovation, global management, strategic change and project management. A specialisation in Financial Management, FinTech or Sustainable Finance allows you to deepen your financial expertise, while internships and projects with partner organisations provide opportunities to apply your learning and expand your professional network.
Delivered in person at Macquarie University’s North Ryde campus, the course can be completed in two years of full-time study or the part-time equivalent. You will graduate with two separate master’s degrees and be prepared for opportunities across banking, corporate finance, investment, risk, financial analysis, consulting, operations and organisational management.

What you will study
To earn the Master of Banking and Finance and Master of Management, you must successfully complete units totalling 160 credit points, as detailed below. Unless otherwise noted, each course is worth 10 credit points.
You must complete the requirements of both master’s degree components.

Academic requirements
To be eligible for this double degree, applicants must satisfy the admission requirements for both the Master of Banking and Finance and the Master of Management.
Master of Banking and Finance requirements
Applicants must meet at least one of the following requirements:
- Hold a bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent.
- Hold a bachelor’s degree or equivalent and have at least two years of relevant full-time professional experience, professional certification or other recognised prior learning.
Related fields include accounting, actuarial studies, banking, economics, finance, insurance and valuation.
Relevant professional experience may include technical, specialist, managerial or decision-making roles requiring knowledge of finance, banking, actuarial studies, accounting or economics.
Master of Management requirements
Applicants must also meet at least one of the following requirements:
- Hold a bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent.
- Hold a bachelor’s degree or equivalent and have at least two years of relevant approved professional experience, professional certification or other recognised prior learning.
Related fields include accounting, actuarial studies, advertising, banking, business, commerce, communication, economics, finance, hospitality management, insurance, international business, management, marketing, media studies, public relations, public or healthcare administration, supply chain management and valuation.
Relevant experience may include work in business, commerce or management.
The university will assess whether an applicant’s qualifications and experience satisfy the requirements of both degree components. Meeting the requirements for only one component is not sufficient for admission to the double degree.

- A workplace reference letter confirming their relevant experience.
English language requirements
Applicants must provide evidence of at least one of the following:
- A bachelor’s degree completed in a recognised English-speaking country.
- An IELTS overall score of 6.5, with no individual band score below 6.0, or an accepted equivalent.
- Other accepted evidence of English language proficiency.
