Master of Applied Economics

  • Delivery: Face to Face
  • Study Level: Postgraduate
  • Duration: 24 months
  • Course Type: Master's

Apply economic theory, data and policy analysis to understand complex markets, evaluate real-world challenges and inform decisions across business, government, healthcare and sustainable development.

Course overview

Economic decisions influence how organisations invest, governments design policy and communities respond to challenges such as healthcare costs, climate change and global trade. Macquarie University’s Master of Applied Economics prepares you to examine these issues using economic theory, quantitative evidence and practical analysis.

You will strengthen your understanding of microeconomics, macroeconomics and econometrics before applying this knowledge to policy design and real-world economic problems. Elective study allows you to explore areas such as health economics, environmental and energy economics, international trade, economic development, public policy, business analytics and international financial management.

The course is delivered in person at Macquarie University’s North Ryde campus. Depending on your previous qualifications, academic performance and relevant experience, you may complete it in one, 1.5 or two years of full-time study, or the equivalent part-time. Flexible study options also allow eligible students to broaden their expertise through postgraduate electives or a business-related specialisation.
