A Masters in Finance from the Australian National University equips graduates with the necessary skills to excel in the global financial marketplace. The Master of Finance requires the completion of 96 units, which must consist of:
48 units from completion of the following initial component.
42 units from completion of courses from the following list:
- Financial Statements and Reporting
- Applied Foundations of Finance
- Applied Corporate Finance
- Applied Investments
- Topics in International Finance
- Regression Modelling
- Introductory Statistics for Business and Finance
Six units from completion of courses from the following list:
- Business Economics
- Financial Mathematics
Students must achieve a minimum 60 per cent weighted average mark across the first 48 units attempted to continue to the final 48 units of study. Students who do not achieve a minimum of 60 per cent weighted average mark will be transferred to the Master of Applied Finance.
Entry requirements
To be eligible for admission to the course, applicants must present one of the following:
- Applicants must present a bachelor's degree or international equivalent with a minimum GPA of 5.0/7.0.
- An ANU Graduate Certificate of Finance and Actuarial Statistics (Finance Specialisation) with a minimum GPA of 4.5/7.0.
Ranking and English language proficiency: At a minimum, all applicants must meet program-specific academic/non-academic and English language requirements. Admission to most ANU programs is competitive. Therefore, meeting all admission requirements does not automatically guarantee entry. In line with the university's admissions policy and strategic plan, an assessment for admission may include competitively ranking applicants based on specific academic achievement, English language proficiency and diversity factors. Applicants will first be ranked on a GPA ('GPA1') calculated using all but the last semester (or equivalent) of the bachelor's degree used for admission purposes. If required, ranking may further be confirmed based on one of the following:
- For admission purposes, a GPA ('GPA2') calculated on the penultimate and antepenultimate semesters (or equivalent) of the bachelor's degree is used.
- Demonstrating higher-level English language proficiency.
Before enrolment in this ANU program, all students who gain entry will have their bachelor's degree reassessed to confirm that they have met the minimum requirements.
Recognition of Prior Learning
Applicants with a bachelor's degree or graduate certificate in a cognate discipline may be eligible for up to 24 units (one semester) of credit.
Applicants with a graduate diploma or bachelor's degree with honours in a cognate discipline may be eligible for up to 48 units (one year) of credit.
